Manufacture
The couplings were created from chemical wood - similar to MDF fibreboard, but easier to machine and carve. The solid steel threaded bar, being quite heavy, was moulded and cast with polyester resin mixed with micro-spheres. The piping was reproduced using acrylic rod, with the buffers fabricated in MDF.
All components were painted silver with a graphite-based weathering effect applied last. All components were painted silver with wisps of orange.
Finished Results / Interesting Notes
The only metal in the entire model was in fact the buffer pistons. These were aluminium tubes with a coating of grease.
