To recreate decorative turrets as per the original design.
Client
Auckland Town Hall
Manufacture
The framework was constructed from cedar and tanalised ply. The whole structure was built on the ground and hoisted into place by crane.
The cladding was carried out on-site because we were using real lead which had to be lifted to the top of the building, cut, shaped and secured in situ on the roof.
Finished Results / Interesting Notes
The building is of historical value and a listed building. We originally suggested creating a fibreglass lead look-a-like rather than use original materials. However, we were required to create the turrets using original authentic materials. The turret weighed just 200 kilograms when lifted into place. Once clad with lead it weighed over 1.2 tons!! In the end they had to reinforce the roof with steel to take the weight.
