SKYCITY Auckland Casino

Brief

Create a 'Party Island' area by sculpturing parrots and palm trees, to encourage people to move into and stay longer in the area

Both birds were sculpted from polystyrene. The paint finish was water-based using luminous high glow paint. In natural light these paints would be dazzling but because they were going into the casino, which is relatively dark, they look just like everyday paints.

The leaves were casts taken from a moulded plug, which was also sculpted in polystyrene.

Finished Results / Interesting Notes

All the components had to be fitted within 24 hours from midnight Christmas Eve to midnight Christmas Day as the only two days the casino is closed (by law) are Christmas Day and Good Friday.
